What's the Story with Candles?

Candles...they make a great gift for the holidays, birthdays, or just because.  But what is the real idea around a candle?  I ask myself that question a lot when I am looking to purchase a great gift for someone.  When I go to choose the perfect scent for my special gift I, of course, go and smell everyone in the store and try to envision what the recipient of my thoughtful gift might say when they open it up and smell.  Are they going to be "this smells amazing" and by the look on their face you could believe them? Or are they going to just be polite and say "oh this is wonderful, thank you"?  I decided I needed to go the extra mile so to speak in deciding what would be the best scent for my person.  So I actually sat back and thought of some basic things.  I felt it wasn't just about that initial smell of the candle but the description that was given about the candle and how I thought that person would feel when they opened it.  Not how I felt but them.  Would this smell remind them of a special time in their life, would it bring back warm feelings or maybe not?  I started to realize that I was giving a gift that could literally make a person's day not just because I remembered them but because I took the time to make it more personal.  I took the strongest sense we have and not only gave them a tangible gift but a gift that could last forever.  Like the smell of their grandmother's cookies or the smell of their grandfather's pipe, the opening of their favorite book to read or the smell of the beach.  I realized then, I was giving more than the gift of the candle, but a memory.
