National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day

It’s National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day!  Chocolate Chip Cookies are a staple for any time of the year.  Baking is a great way to get your kids involved with cooking as well as teaching math skills!  We wanted to share our favorite recipe for Chocolate Chip Cookies that would look bakery made in our newest cookie jar!

This recipe yields around 24 cookies depending on the size of your scoop.

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup melted butter (unsalted)
  • 1/3 cup of granulated sugar
  • ½ cup of packed brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla
  • ½ teaspoon of baking soda
  • ½ of salt
  • 1 ½ cup of flour
  • 1 ½ cup of chocolate chips

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Step 2:  Put the melted butter, granulated sugar and brown sugar in a large bowl and mix on a low speed until smooth.  A stand mixer or hand mixer will work to mix all the ingredients until smooth.

Step 3: Once smooth, mix in the egg and vanilla until combined.

Step 4: In a medium size bowl mix together the baking soda, salt and flour.  Once combined, slowly add to the large bowl until smooth.

Step 5: Add in the chocolate chips.  Now the recipe calls for 1 and a ½ cups but you can add more if you would like.  You can also add a variety of chips such as milk chocolate, dark chocolate, a combination or even white chocolate chips.

Step 6: Chill the dough.  This makes for easier scooping as well as an even baking across the cookie.

Step 7: Use a melon baller or cookie scoop to scoop out the cookie dough onto the cookie sheet and bake for 11 to 13 minutes or until golden brown on the bottom.  Allow them to cool before removing from the sheet.

A great treat to make with these cookies is to add vanilla ice cream between two to make ice cream sandwiches!
